Less 2 hours from Dublin, this is the capital and largest city in Northern Ireland. Best known as a major port and the home of the Titanic, this city also suffered violent conflicts from the 1960s – 1990s and was at one point considered one of the world’s most dangerous cities. However, it has now cleaned up its reputation, and though it maintains a slightly gritty feel, it is a lovey city to visit. Safe and welcoming, this city now hosts tourists from all over the world. It is a very walkable city, with lovely historical buildings, such as Belfast City Hall. In addition to history, one of the most vibrant areas to discover is the Cathedral Quarter. It is renown for its lively nightlife, entertainment and cocktail scene. More than that, it is also district that highlights Belfast’s street art scene, and is quite beautiful to take in.

When in Belfast, I recommend staying at the Grand Central Hotel. This hotel is right across the street from Belfast City Hall, a short walk to the Cathedral Quarter and many lovely shopping streets. **Plus, it has the tallest bar in Ireland, the Observatory, which gives amazing views to all of Belfast. And absolutely delicious cocktails. Not to be missed! I recommend reservations, especially on the weekends.

And of course, the Titanic Belfast! As one of the world’s leading tourist attractions, it is a must-see when in Belfast. The architecture is very impressive, and you get a completely immersive experience into the planning, building and details of the actual Titanic. It is built on the site of the Titanic shipyard and contains a number of interactive exhibits that are informative, as well as emotional. You also get a great feel for what it must have been like to work on such an epic project. Can’t get enough of Titanic? They also have the Titanic Hotel Belfast, which is on the shipyard site, right beside the Titanic exhibit.

Belfast is worth a visit. Even if the rest of your journey just takes you to the south, do a drive up from Dublin for the day just to check it out. You won’t be disappointed!
