If you haven’t been here…you NEED to go!!
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most photographed and most daring coastal routes in the world. The best way to enjoy the views, vibes and villages that have inspired poets and lovers for centuries is to take a scenic drive…
Awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO and inspiring creative minds from painter William Turner to popstar Beyoncé, La Costiera Amalfitana is probably the world’s favorite 30 miles of coastline. My recommendation to enjoy it to the fullest is to hire a private driver from Sorrento. Leave the hairpin turns and the sheer, thousand-foot drops to your expert driver, and relax as you travel along the Amalfi Drive – a feat of engineering with improbable roads and tunnels that link the picturesque seaside villages. Begin by exploring the ‘vertical village’ of Positano that climbs the cliffs beside the azure Tyrrhenian Sea. Its uneven stairs, covered walkways and quaint shops are ripe for the exploring – make sure you find a vine-covered terrace to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy some of the best people-watching in Italy.

Continue on to the hills and the charming town of Ravello perched on a rocky spur between two valleys. One of the area’s most elegant destinations, Ravello is known for its artisanal ceramics, luxe linens and delectable dolci. History also abounds in Ravello’s striking cathedral with its massive bronze doors and its flamboyant pulpit, while noble palaces like the 13th-century Villa Rufolo pride themselves in their cascading gardens, which locals say inspired the setting for Richard Wagner’s opera Parsifal. More postcard-perfect views await as you make your way back along the Amalfi Drive to Sorrento.
