Discover Sorrento

Who doesn’t love a stunning, picturesque town on a gorgeous seaside?

Sorrento is one of Italy’s most famous resort towns. Sitting on a perch high above the Mediterranean, it is like a balcony over the sea with views that extend from the island of Procida across the Gulf to Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. Sorrento is a lovely, civilized historic town. Sights to see include the civic park of the Villa Comunale bursting with blooms and trees; a popular gathering spot for the citizens, the church of San Francesco which has a cross-vaulted cloister that hosts concerts and art exhibitions. Be sure to check out the Romanesque Duomo, the city’s cathedral that dates back to the 1400s. It has gorgeous doors with a fresco over the portal. Its accompanying bell tower has an ancient clock face composed from beautiful majolica tiles. Though there are not a lot of large sandy beaches, you can still enjoy the sea at a beach club, or sunbathing on a large platform, which juts out into the sea. Get there early for a good spot and spend the rest of the day enjoying the sun and the sea.

Insider Tip: For something off the beaten path and fun to do, check out the Caseifico Michelangelo mozzarella cheese factory for a tasting or try your hand at making it yourself!
